In just a few short weeks you will be here in Edinburgh preparing to start your chosen programme. Here’s an introduction to the events we have in store for Welcome Week – we’re sure this will be a great start to your time with us!
International Day: Sunday 10 September, 10:00 to 16:00 at McEwan Hall
International Day is a special day for our new international students.
You will get plenty of help and advice about starting off in a new country, including sessions about academic culture in the UK, managing your money, Scottish culture, and getting involved with student activity on campus. You will also hear about what things are important to do in your first week, how you can get help, and you can visit representatives from the many services we have at the University to find out what they offer.
Students’ Association Activities
Not only will you meet with the people who are here to support you through your studies, during Welcome Week you will also be able to attend a whole range of social activities, where you can make new friends. Our Student Societies will be there on International Day, so it’s an ideal time to meet them and get involved in anything from the Harry Potter Society to the Swahili Club! Finish the day by trying your hand at some traditional dancing at the Ceilidh in the Teviot Debating Hall.
We always find that students who attend International Day and Welcome Week settle into their studies and their new home much quicker than students who don’t, so we recommend that you take full advantage of this eventful day.
THE BEST OF THE REST
Our Airport Welcome will take place at Edinburgh Airport from Friday 08 to Sunday 10 September, 8am to 10pm. Our student ambassadors will meet you and help you find your way to your accommodation.
If you arrive outside the official arrival period, it is still very easy to find your own way to your accommodation. For more information see our Transport in Edinburgh page.
International Students’ Meet and Greet
This event will take place in the Main Foyer, 7 Bristo Square, on Friday 08 September from 10.00-16.00. Come along to meet Edinburgh Global staff and other new and current students, and have your questions answered over a cup of tea or coffee in an informal environment.
International Students’ Information Point
This event will take place in the Teviot Row House entrance, Bristo Square, on Saturday 09 September from 10.00-15.30. If you have and questions or need some help, our specially trained Ambassadors will be pleased to offer their assistance.
Make Yourself at Home: Networking Event for International Students’ Families and Partners and all Student Parents and Carers
An opportunity for families and partners of international students and student parents and carers to get practical information about living in the UK (including schooling, childcare and healthcare), to meet peers, and to find out what support and help is available at the University. Come and meet us and enjoy a cup of coffee or tea in a friendly environment. Spaces are limited so sign-up is essential.
These are just a few of the events taking place during Welcome Week. For a full list of everything that is happening, download the Events App available here.
