How time flies! In less than two weeks you will be here in Edinburgh preparing to start your chosen programme. In our final post for new students, we will be talking about Welcome Week, and all the amazing events that we have in store for you!
If you will arrive on 08, 09 or 10 September between 8:00am and 10:00pm, you will meet our Welcome Team at the airport, who will be wearing their bright yellow hoodies! Our friendly team will help you find your way to your accommodation by directing you to taxis or public transport and providing information about key collection if you are going to University accommodation. More information on our Airport Welcome service can be found on our website.
You can pre-book a taxi with Edinburgh City Private Hire (ECPH) to take you from the airport to your accommodation. They offer preferential rates to University of Edinburgh students who book in advance. You can also pre-book their taxis when you land so don’t worry if you forgot to do so before you departed. The usual cost of a taxi is around £20 (depending on your destination) and this is the cost per vehicle, not per person.
Come along to our beautiful McEwan Hall from 10.00am on Sunday 10 September for International Day. Meet other new students, get practical help to get you started in Edinburgh, and join in the social and cultural events throughout the day! This day is fun, informative and created especially for you and we highly recommend you come along to find out what is on offer to you as an international student.
DEPENDANTS’ NETWORK – for partners and families of international students
The International Student Advisory Service offers guidance and support to partners and families of students. We have prepared a guide to help dependants with their transition to and their life in Edinburgh – it’s packed with useful information. To receive news and updates about our Dependants’ Network join our Facebook Group for dependants.
Join us on Tuesday 19 September for Make Yourself at Home: A networking event for international students’ families and partners and all student parents and carers. This is a chance for family members and carers to meet peers, enjoy a cup of tea or coffee in a friendly environment and find out what support is available at the University and beyond. Sign up for the event here.
Go Connect is a forum for international students to meet with members of the local community. Meeting a local person or family can help you settle into University life, learn more about Scotland, enhance your experience of studying abroad and increase your understanding of local traditions and customs. This is a very popular scheme and we do our best to make sure everyone is matched with a local host. To register please visit our website.
You can find full information about all the events and activities and download the University of Edinburgh Events App here .
If you have any questions about any of the above, please email our team: email@example.com. You can find further advice on living in Edinburgh on our website and information for new students on the University’s New Students website.
We hope you find our blogs helpful in preparing you for life in Edinburgh and we look forward to welcoming you soon!
